Day in the Life: The Beacon by EPIC Groundbreaking

October 14, 2021

Last week individuals of the EPIC Team spent the day in downtown Grand Forks learning more about the exciting developments to this historic area. The day started off with McKenzy Braaten, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations, and Lance Johnson, Vice President of Events, of EPIC Companies attending a roundtable discussion with Grand Forks city leaders, local business owners, Mayor Brandon Bochenski, and Governor Doug Burgum.

Attendees were able to learn all about the growth Grand Forks has experienced recently and had the opportunity to see these projects first hand on the walking tour.

The first stop on the walking tour was The Mill by EPIC, EPIC’s recently revamped location along 3rd Street in downtown Fargo. McKenzy Braaten visited with Governor Burgum about the history of The Mill and updates that had been done. The Mill by EPIC is the new home of Kittsona, a local boutique that specializes in clothing, home decor, gifts and local goods. This store has been a staple of Grand Forks since 2011. EPIC worked closely with Kittsona to make their dream storefront a reality. There was a lot of work that needed to be done, but it turned out beautifully. The entire group was eager to get inside to see the results of all the hard work. The crowd favorites of the new location were the checkout counter, made from a past bowling alley lane, and the back glass garage door that was used frequently this past summer.

The walking tour continued down the recently redone 3rd Street making stops along the way to recently renovated buildings or brand new additions to downtown. It is the local support that make these advancements so special, EPIC is honored to be one of these outstanding, innovative projects happening in downtown Grand Forks.

The last stop on the walking tour was The Beacon by EPIC’s groundbreaking. The Beacon by EPIC is a district located near downtown Grand Forks that is the future home to residential units, commercial space, an outdoor plaza, additional public parking, and event space. The city-owned plaza and event space can host events such as markets, trade shows, theater, movie nights, kids events, hockey, broomball, basketball, speaking engagements, art, and more.

The groundbreaking celebration started with a short social followed by remarks by McKenzy Braaten, followed by Craig Tweten of Community Contractors, Inc., Mayor Bochenski, and concluding with Governor Burgum. EPIC Companies individuals, Governor Burgum, Mayor Bochenski, and other partners of the project broke the ground at The Beacon by EPIC’s construction site.

Phase I of The Beacon by EPIC is expected to be completed Summer 2023.
