New war sculpture unveiled at POW/MIA Plaza in West Fargo

A new statue to honor all of those who have served was unveiled Thursday night, June 29, at the POW/MIA Plaza, next to the West Fargo VFW Post 7564.

The sculpture shows two soldiers, one of them carrying the injured one to safety.

West Fargo artist Jay Ray designed the seven-foot-tall sculpture that weighs 1,000 pounds to honor Vietnam War veterans.

Ray, who is not a veteran, spent the past six weeks working on it. “Just to represent the heroism of our military and just not to glamorize war, but basically acknowledge that the brotherhood and sisterhood of our veterans and what it takes… fighting for our country,” he said.
